How to connect a Raspberry Pi to eduroam

How to connect a Raspberry Pi to eduroam

Here are the steps to configure a Raspberry Pi to connect to the eduroam network:

  • Open the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file:
sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
  • Edit the file so it contains the following:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=US

network={
    ssid="eduroam"
    key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
    eap=PEAP
    phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
    identity="student@wit.edu"
    anonymous_identity="student@wit.edu"
    password="PASSWORD"
}

Note that identity and anonymous_identity both need to contain your wit.edu email address.

  • Save and close the file.

Since this file contains your password in plain-text you should change the permissions to protect it.

sudo chmod 660 /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
